Athletics departments, school districts, and institutions are facing an increase in complaints related to gender equity, treatment and benefits, and overall compliance with federal civil rights laws. While many professionals are familiar with the foundational frameworks—such as the Three-Part Test—far fewer feel confident navigating what happens when a complaint is actually filed.

This live, interactive training is designed to bridge that gap.

Participants will learn how to effectively respond to and manage athletics-related complaints from intake through resolution. The course focuses on real-world application, including how to assess allegations, determine the appropriate process, coordinate with key stakeholders, and mitigate risk—without losing sight of institutional obligations and practical realities.

Key topics include:

  • Identifying and triaging athletics-related complaints (e.g., gender equity, treatment and benefits, retaliation)
  • Understanding when Title IX, broader civil rights policies, or other frameworks apply
  • Structuring a defensible response: intake, jurisdiction, and early decision-making
  • Conducting or overseeing investigations in the athletics context
  • Evaluating evidence and making findings in complex, high-visibility matters
  • Coordinating across athletics, compliance, HR, and legal teams
  • Implementing remedies and monitoring for ongoing compliance
  • Avoiding common pitfalls that increase exposure and scrutiny

This training is ideal for Title IX Coordinators, athletics administrators, compliance officers, investigators, and institutional leaders who may be involved in responding to or overseeing athletics-related complaints.

Note: This course builds on foundational knowledge (including concepts like the Three-Part Test) and focuses specifically on complaint response, investigation, and resolution strategies.

Registrants must be present for at least 80% of the duration of the training to receive a certificate of completion.
